Graduate Pulmonary Nursing Fellowship

The Graduate Pulmonary Nursing Fellowship was established in 2009 with the goal of recruiting and retaining high caliber graduate nursing students who are committed to nursing practice, education, or research in tuberculosis (TB) or other pulmonary diseases at the University of Washington, School of Nursing.

The fellowship provides up to 2 years of funding for tuition and related educational expenses, not to exceed $30,000/year. Funding preference will be given to students who are focused on nursing care of individuals with TB and plan to practice in the Pacific Northwest after graduation. Only one fellowship will be awarded each year. The fellowship is administered by the UW School of Nursing through a competitive selection process. Please contact the UW SoN directly for information regarding application deadlines.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduate nursing student in the MS, MN, DNP or PhD programs at the UW SoN
  • Previous clinical experience caring for patients with TB or other pulmonary diseases
  • Commitment to the study of nursing care for TB or other pulmonary diseases and to full-time enrollment (minimum 10 credits/quarter) in all quarters of funding
  • Agree to present at a Firland Board meeting, progress and accomplishments at the end of each funding year

The duration of the fellowship shall normally be for one academic year contingent on continued study in the field of TB or other pulmonary disease. Provided that a recipient has made acceptable progress toward his or her degree and remains focused on the study of TB and other pulmonary disease, the fellowship may be awarded for a second year. Failure of the student to remain in good academic standing or to make satisfactory progress toward a degree may result in withdrawal of the fellowship.
